Bracknell League Annual Tournament
The Bracknell League tournament for the 2007/08 season is to be held on Sunday 2nd March, at Bracknell Leisure Centre, from 10:30 to 16:00. The entry fee will £7 per player.

As normal, this will be a Level Doubles tournament (mens and ladies games only, no mixed), for teams of four players. Additionally, we aim to run a separate singles tournament for those brave enough to enter! (there will be an additional £3 entry fee for the singles tournament)

If you're interested, it's still not too late to enter your team. Get in touch with Karen Press, or even better, fill in the Microsoft Word File entry form and send it to Karen.

World class charity badminton exhibition
To be held on Sunday 2nd March.

No, no, not the Bracknell tournament... An exhibition tournament is being held in Stratford upon Avon, with proceeds going towards the NSPCC and Help the Aged. It's a bit out of our area, but I thought it may interest some people.

English representation comes from Anthony Clark and Robert Blair.

Website Problems
You may have noticed that the website has not been available several times in the last few days.

This was due to problems at my web hosting company, but I believe they have all been resolved now, so hopefully it's back to normal.

[8th February 2008]
Windsor & Maidenhead Tournament
Thanks to all who competed in the tournament last week.

The winners of the handicap tournament were Syngenta, and the team with the highest points score, not counting handicap, were Mavnell.

I will hopefully be able to get hold of all of the scores and tables, and put them onto the website.

Best-Pairs table has changed
Due to popular demand, I have changed the way that the Best Pairs table is created.

The two major changes are:
  • Pairs need to compete in 50% of their team's matches so far (rather than in 50% of the total number of fixtures as before)
  • Pairs who play in teams of four are now included in the table.
The criteria for appearing in the Best Pairs table are described in full at the top of the table.

New season has started!
The information on the BDBA website should all now reflect the coming season (2007 - 2008).

You may also notice that at the top-right-hand side of the screen, there is an option to select the season that you want to view.

If you are interested, this can be used to switch between 2006-07 and 2007-08

[16th July 2007]
Individual Statistics
I have added a few basic statistics for the previous season, for everyone who has played in a match in the Bracknell league.

You'll find a new entry in the website's navigation bar called 'Stats'.

Hopefully there is more to come, but if you can think of any things that you would like to see, then do let me know. I hope to add a table containing each players' eligibility, to help team captains find out who is eligible to play for them

[14th July 2007]
Rally Points Scoring
The BDBA has voted to adopt the Rally Points Scoring system, starting in the 2007-08 season. Hopefully most players have had an opportunity to try this out over the summer. The following information may be of use for those who are still unfamiliar with the implications

2007 AGM summary
The full minutes of the BDBA 2007 AGM are available for download here

The following is a brief summary of the major decisions

  • Pre-stamped match cards will be provided for the 2007-08 season. There will be a penalty for teams not returning match cards to the League Match Secretary within 14 days of the fixture.
  • James Leach was elected as Chairman of the association, replacing Ross Watt
  • The remaining committee members were re-elected to their respective posts.

Change to the League Rules:
The league rules have been updated with items discussed at this summer's AGM. Two clauses were added:

3. Deduction of points due to non-affiliation. The rules specifically state that all clubs should be affiliated to the appropriate county and Badminton England by October 31st of each season.
4. Reminders will not be issued and should clubs fail to affiliate by 31st October, they can expect to have 2 points per month deducted from each team .

Please ensure that your team registrations are sent to the League Secretary as soon as possible!

[1st September 2006]
Trial of email submission of match cards
Due to popular demand, the BDBA committee has decided to allow submission of match results by email, to avoid having to incur the expense of posting every match card individually. Provided this proves successful, it will be adopted as a rule for subsequent seasons.

Team captains need to be made aware of the following:
  • Match cards may be submitted to me electronically, by emailing a scanned image or digital photograph of the completed and signed match card to match.secretary@bdba.co.uk
    • Please ensure that the image is legible - not blurred or too low resolution!
    • Please do continue to use the official match cards, because it simplifies my job of getting the results onto the website if all submissions are in a consistent format.
    • This should be done within 8 days of the match being played.
  • The official match cards should still be filled in, signed and returned to me by the home team before the end of the season - these will have the final say in case of any disputed result.
    • Each club can just post all of their match cards in one envelope once all of the matches are played, so that should save a lot of stamp money.
  • If you don't have access to a scanner or digital camera, then match cards can still be returned to me via post.
Any queries on this, contact match.secretary@bdba.co.uk
